Great North American Afghan Edging

Needles
Two size 7 (4Hmm) double-pointed needles (dpn)

1 See Knitter's School for grafting. 2 Edging is applied to afghan as it is worked.
Edging
Cast on 4 sts onto dpn. Work row 1 of Edging Chart. Then cont in chart pat, attaching edging to afghan at end of every WS row (beg joining edging at seam between any 2 squares). Pick up approx 38 sts along each square. Pick up at corners as foll: work to within 2 sts of corner st, *[pick up 2 sts in next st] twice*, skip corner st, rep from * to * once. Graft final open sts to cast-on sts.

With WS of afghan facing, pick up and p 1 st from afghan edge, pass last k st over picked-up st, turn.

Note Sl sts knitwise with yarn in back.
Row 1 (RS) Sl 1, k1, [yo] twice, k26 sts. 2 K3, p1, k2, joining st. 3 Sl 1, k5. 4 K6, joining st. 5 Sl 1, k1, [yo] twice, k2tog, [yo] twice, k29 sts. 6 K3, [p1, k2] twice, joining st. 7 Sl 1, k8. 8 Bind off 5 sts, k3, joining st4 sts. Rep rows 1-8 for Edging Chart.
